Cracking-Up

The frozen pond on the SNU campus with a very large crack in its surface. It looked to me like the ice was 15-20 cm thick and it happily supported the weight of the students who were walking across it.

A Demonstration

I heard the sound of chanting a few minutes ago and looked out of my apartment window to see the scene above. A short time later a group of about 200 police offices with helmets and shields came running up the road behind them. I'm not sure what's going on, but if I do I'll report back tomorrow.

PS (22 Jan) - The demonstration appears to have been the result of the situation surrounding a fire that caused the deaths of five protesters and one police officer in Yongsan yesterday morning. For more details, click here.

One Drink Too Many?

You could be excused for thinking that you may have had one drink too many upon seeing the larger-than-life pink crocodile and his pallid pal, but they form part of a display outside a building in Yongsan.

Snowy Scene

Today we had our first decent snowfall of the season. It was snowing when I looked out our apartment window at about 6:30 am this morning and the cold white fluffy stuff continues to fall as I type this. The image above is what I could see a few moments ago when I looked down from my office window. I think that the trees look beautiful all dusted with snow.

Happy New Year!

I am not participating in the Theme Day this month (due to a total lack of organization).

Anyway the photo for today was taken at at the Hwaseong Fortress at Suwon. It shows a lock on an open door in the fortress wall. I like the combination of wood, metal and brick and the variation in colour and texture in the shot. I also think that it symbolizes the door being closed on one year and it being opened on another.

I hope that you all have a happy, prosperous and successful New Year.
